      <image:title>Home - ROBERT CAPA</image:title>
<image:caption>Born in Budapest in 1913, Robert Capa is considered the world’s greatest war photographer. He documented the Spanish Civil War, the Japanese invasion of China, WWII including the landing at Normandy, as well as other conflicts. Capa was a groundbreaking photojournalist who placed himself in the middle of military conflicts to document the destruction of lives and property while also capturing the survivors who marched on through life, their human spirit in triumph over unspeakable adversity. "If your pictures aren't good enough, you're not close enough" Robert Capa Photo: Robert Capa, [American troops landing on Omaha Beach, D-Day, Normandy, France], June 6, 1944. <image:caption>Born in Budapest in 1918, Cornell had three major interrelated careers: as a champion of the work of his brother Robert, as founder of the International Center for Photography in NYC and as an advocate for ‘concerned photography’, work that contributes to the understanding or well being of humanity. "Photography has the capacity to provide images of man and his environment that are both works of art and moments in history" Cornell Capa Photo: Cornell Capa, [Inmates playing chess from prison cells, Attica Correctional Facility, Attica, New York], March 1972. <image:caption>The Capa Space is an education and exhibition center created to foster and advance the belief that the community can use photography to advance concepts of peace, equality and justice. The Capa Space is dedicated to continuing the legacy of Robert and Cornell Capa’s work as “concerned” photographers. The Capa Space is a place where people gather to create, view and learn about photography. We aim to inspire visitors to participate in the creative process by illustrating the power of photography as a catalyst for social action.</image:caption>

<image:caption>“The Capa Space will be a 21st century arts center that embraces photography as a means to draw the community together in common purpose and to strengthen the bonds that exist between neighbors. I wholeheartedly support this project.” “ICP supports the mission of The Capa Space and looks forward to collaborating. We hope to see The Capa Space thrive as an exhibition space and thought leader in Westchester.” “Please consider me a ‘concerned’ contributor to The Capa Space It has my full stamp of approval and strong sense that Robert and Cornell would approve.” Mark Lubell, Former Executive Director, ICP</image:caption>
